While they may not have landed Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis as was initially hoped (a scheduling conflict prevented it), the showrunners of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” have found a superb replacement.
Golden Globe-winning “Sons of Anarchy” and “Futurama” star Katey Sagal has joined the cast of the series in the role of Dr. Kureha for the show’s currently in production second season.
She was one of two announcements today, the other being TV veteran Mark Harelik (“Presumed Innocent,” “Preacher,” “42”) who will take on the role of Dr. Hiriluk.
The pair serve as parental figures to Tony Tony Chopper – a reindeer who ate a devil fruit and transformed into a half-human. By season’s end he’ll become the doctor onboard the Going Merry.
Both characters appear in the Drum Island arc of the anime, which will likely be a multi-part episode closing out the live-action show’s second season.
The casting is the first of several key casting announcements coming this week. Further roles such as the voice of Tony Tony Chopper, Nico Robin, Portgas D. Ace, Crocodile, and Princess Vivi, could well be revealed tomorrow and Friday.
