Karen Gillan Rumored For “Pirates” Reboot

A new rumor has cropped up claiming that former “Doctor Who” star turned “Jumanji” and “Avengers” actress Karen Gillan is being rumored as a potential lead for the next “Pirates of the Caribbean” feature.

Reports emerged in 2018 suggesting the studio would reboot the blockbuster franchise and it wasn’t clear what that meant for Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.

Today, The DisInsider is reporting that the property is going the full reboot route and are looking for a female lead with Gillan’s name the top choice. Speculation will be high that she’s playing Redd, the popular female pirate featured in the Disney Parks attraction, but the report also says the studio is considering women of color for the role.

“Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin and Ted Elliot, who wrote the previous ‘Pirates’ films, were set late last year find a fresh new direction for the franchise. No director is set but Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman remain onboard to produce the film with a budget still above $100 million and plans for a theatrical release.
