Actor Alan Tudyk has confirmed he is not a part of the “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” spin-off series “Star Wars: Andor” for its early run.
Tudyk voiced the reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO in “Rogue One,” a character that served essentially as a sidekick to Diego Luna’s rebel spy Cassian Andor.
Both actors were on hand in 2019 for D23 when the project was formally announced, but there’s been little word on Tudyk’s involvement for months.
Recently, speaking with Collider about his new Syfy series “Resident Alien,” Tudyk revealed he isn’t a part of “Andor” as yet:
“They’re shooting it right now, I’m not in it. But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I’ll end up in there.
I’m going to be in the show. It’s just that the story that Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn’t involve K-2SO until later on… I can’t be too specific, but I can definitely say that I’m not going to be in the first season.”
He also says one concern he has is that of his age and having to perform in an elaborate mo-cap suit on stilts:
“I do know this: I have to be on stilts for it, because the character is 7’1″ and I’m not one of those guys that says, ‘somebody else do the motion capture, and I’ll voice it later’. I’ll have to do the motion capture, and I turn 50 in March. So I hope they get to it soon, because I’m not going to be on stilts in, like, five years. I’m not doing it!”
The comments also seem to confirm that Andor will be an ongoing series (ala “The Mandalorian”) as opposed to a limited series like the planned Obi-Wan Kenobi series. It also indicates Tony Gilroy intends to steer the ship beyond this initial run.
