Estimates for Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic World Rebirth” have been revised upwards following a healthy first two days of business.
Launched on Wednesday, the title drew in $30.5 million on its opening day and is on track for $22-24 million by the end of today (Thursday). The film had the fourth-highest opening day for a “Jurassic” movie domestically.
For now, Universal is sticking to projections of $80 million for the Friday-Sunday and $133.5 million for the Wednesday-Friday five-day haul. The title will be a top opener for Scarlett Johansson.
Critics and audiences are both a bit mixed on the film – the movie’s CinemaScore coming in at B which isn’t the worst, but is behind the widely panned “Jurassic World: Dominion” with an A-.
Overseas, the film pulled in $26 million in its opening day in a handful of markets, though much of its international footprint doesn’t kick in until Thursday or Friday. In those it has launched, like China, it’s doing the biggest opening day numbers of any Hollywood studio film this year.
Shot for a reduced cost of $180 million before P&A, the title doesn’t have to hit the $1 billion mark like much of the “Jurassic World” trilogy in order to be profitable.
