The upcoming Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey-led semi-reboot of the “Jurassic World” franchise with “Jurassic World Rebirth” is set to do big numbers in its debut.
Deadline reports that the title has popped up on tracking today, three weeks out from the film’s release, and is heading towards a $115-135 million five-day opening.
This marks only the second ‘Jurassic’ film to open on a Wednesday, the other being 2001’s “Jurassic Park III” which made $85 million over its five-day debut.
Its numbers are behind the prior film “Jurassic World: Dominion” which opened to $145 million before going on to $377 million domestically and $1 billion worldwide. The first “Jurassic World” in 2015 remains the biggest opener of the franchise – that reboot taking in $208.8 million.
The film marks the return of “Jurassic Park” writer David Koepp, while “Godzilla” and “Rogue One” director Gareth Edwards helms the project about an expedition who must extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough.
The film will follow the release of “M3GAN 2.0” and “F1” the prior weekend with both of those movies targeting $30+ million starts.
