If the work of H.P. Lovecraft and H.R. Giger had a love child, it would have to be acclaimed Japanese manga artist and author Junji Ito.
Rich in twisted, bizarre body horror imagery in cruel universes where society breaks down, his works from “Tomie” to “Gyo” to “Shiver” are astonishing pieces of both design and storytelling. Now one of his most famous works, 1998’s “Uzumaki,” is set to become a four-part Adult Swim series to air next year.
The three-volume original series is set in a town that falls under the effects of a supernatural curse involving spirals which begin appearing first in the elements from the sky to the water, and then to in people’s own flesh as madness quickly takes hold.
Production I.G is producing this adaptation as part of its Toonami line of shows.
