“Bridgerton” and “Broadchurch” alum Jonathan Bailey is in talks to join the cast of the Jon M. Chu-directed two-part film adaptation of the musical “Wicked” at Universal Pictures.
“The Wizard of Oz” prequel deals with the lead up to Dorothy’s arrival and tells the story of how Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
Bailey will play Elphaba’s love interest Prince Fiyero in the feature headlined by Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. He marks the first casting outside of the two lead roles.
Stephen Schwartz, who penned the music and lyrics to the original Broadway show, is adapting the screenplay with Winnie Holzman. Marc Platt, is producing,
The films are set for release Christmas 2024 & 2025.
