“Spider-Man: No Way Home” helmer Jon Watts is exiting as director of Marvel Studios’ latest reinvention of its comic series “Fantastic Four” at Disney.
Watts was expected to make “Fantastic Four” his next film but reportedly “needs a break from the superhero realm” after serving as director of the three Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” films.
The man has earned it, the recent “Spider-Man: No Way Home” grossing $1.89 billion to become the sixth highest-grossing film of all-time and helping prove cinemas as still being viable.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says in a statement: “[We] understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point down the road.”
Watts remains linked to an Apple Studios film that plans to have George Clooney and Brad Pitt starring as rival ‘fixers’ who find themselves simultaneously hired for the same job.
