“John Wick” Helmer To Direct “Rainbow Six”

Amazon Prime

“John Wick” franchise director Chad Stahelski is set to helm Paramount Pictures’ long-gestating film adaptation of Tom Clancy’s novel “Rainbow Six”.

The film will serve as a sequel to 2021’s “Without Remorse” which saw Michael B. Jordan take on the role of Clancy’s Navy SEAL-turned-CIA operative John Clark character. Jordan will return for the new film in a role that once had Ryan Reynolds slated to play the character who serves as a darker counterpart of Clancy’s more famous creation Jack Ryan. Willem Dafoe and Liev Schrieber have previously taken on the role on screen.

The original novel revolves around Clark who becomes head of an international task force to combat terrorism. The team is quickly confronted by a series of international incidents. The property has famously been adapted into a successful series of video games by Ubisoft.

Shot during the pandemic, ‘Remorse’ served as a Clark origin story and teased a “Rainbow Six” follow-up in its final scene. Paramount offloaded ‘Remorse’ to Amazon, where it debuted on April 30th 2021 to poor reviews (including a 46% on Rotten Tomatoes).

This time, Paramount intends to release ‘Rainbow’ theatrically but final decisions won’t be made until later in the process. Jordan will produce alongside Elizabeth Raposo, Akiva Goldsman, Greg Lessans, Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.

Stahelski and his 87Eleven Entertainment cohorts Jason Spitz and Alex Young will executive produce. Stahelski remains attached to a remake of “Highlander” and will shortly release “Josh Wick: Chapter 4”.
