Whilst “John Wick: Chapter 4” marks the end, for now, of the main numbered entries in the franchise – the world of “John Wick” is continuing to expand.
We have the “Ballerina” film starring Ana de Armas coming next June, and a three-part 1970s-set prequel TV event series titled “The Continental” launching this September focusing on the origins of Ian McShane’s Winston and Lance Reddick’s Charon.
That’s not all either, it seems. Franchise director Chad Stahelski recently confirmed on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast (via Screen Rant) that discussions are underway to see Halle Berry return to her “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” role of Sofia.
Stahelski also indicates several spin-offs seem to be in the works beyond what’s been announced:
“Yeah. We have actually been in talks several times to try to… I hate the term spinoff. But they are trying to do other satellite projects off of the Wick franchise. Hopefully, they’ll be good ones.”
In the film, Sofia is a former assassin and close friend of John Wick. She also owns two Belgian Malinois dogs who are an integral part of her lethal arsenal and were part of her fight scenes in the third film.
It’s hardly the first talk of a Berry-led spin-off of a major action franchise. Two decades ago there were early plans to give her “Die Another Day” Bond girl character of Jinx a potential spin-off film. That never came to be.
Stahelski, meanwhile, is busy with several prospects to choose from for his next feature directorial effort – the most likely being the film adaptation of the PlayStation-exclusive samurai game “Ghost of Tsushima”.
“John Wick: Chapter 4” is now available for purchase digitally and gets its physical home media release on June 13th.
