“John Wick 4” Original Ending Revealed

Lionsgate

As part of a new interview with Empire, “John Wick: Chapter 4” director Chad Stahelski has confirmed that the movie’s original ending was a little different from the final cut.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4”

As we know, Lionsgate is very keen to move forward on a fifth “John Wick” film alongside its various spin-offs on the way, such as “The Continental” mini-series and the Ana de Armas-led “Ballerina”.

But the recent film seemingly ends with Wick’s death, and we see John’s grave as Winston and The Bowery King briefly chat. The nature of the scene leaves open the slim possibility that John’s still alive.

Stahelski says the original ending offered a clearer answer, but audiences during the test screening clearly preferred the one they actually went with:

“We had a different ending. We shot an ending where you actually saw John Wick at the end of the movie. So it was very clear that he was still alive. The audiences we tested with absolutely preferred the ambiguous ending.”

“John Wick: Chapter 4” closed out its run with a worldwide gross of over $428 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing “John Wick” movie to date.
