“John Rambo” Movie Begins Production

Lionsgate

Filming has officially begun in Thailand on Lionsgate’s “John Rambo,” a film that serves as an origin story to the legendary franchise.

Noah Centineo (“The Recruit,” “Street Fighter”) stars in the film which is set during the Vietnam War, years before the events of “First Blood”.

The story aims to dive deep into the roots and experiences that forged one of the big screen’s most enduring and complex characters.

“Sisu” helmer Jalmari Helander directs the project from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (“Black Adam,” “The Mauritanian”). In his director’s statement, Helander says: “This is Rambo stripped down, raw, and real – a survival story about endurance, persistence, and lost innocence.”

Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, Michael Disco and Angela Russo-Otstot produce while Anthony & Joe Russo are among the executive producers.

The cast will include Yao (“Sinners”), Jason Tobin (“A Thousand Blows”), Quincy Isaiah (“Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”), Jefferson White (“Yellowstone”), and Tayme Thapthimthong (“The White Lotus”).

Filming locations will take place across Thailand, including Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Kanchanaburi.
