Jodie Whittaker Wraps Doctor Who Filming

Though we’re not going to see it until late next year, it has been confirmed that actress Jodie Whittaker has shot her final scenes in the role of the thirteenth incarnation of The Doctor in the BBC’s long-running sci-fi series “Doctor Who”.

Whittaker’s final run includes a six-episode thirteenth season which premieres at Halloween, and three feature-length specials to air across 2022 starting with a New Year’s Day one.

Filming on the third and final special is now complete with the series’ official social media account also confirming that her co-star Mandip Gill (who plays companion Yasmin Khan) has also shot her final scenes.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall is also exiting with the actresses with new showrunner Russell T. Davies taking over. Davies relaunched the show in 2005 and served as showrunner through to the end of David Tennant’s run in 2010. Davies will steer the show’s upcoming 60th anniversary special and the next sseason beyond.

Whittaker’s replacement has not yet been announced which is unusual as normally a new Doctor is announced before the previous Doctor’s final scenes are shot as The Doctor’s regeneration into their new form is the final scene of each Doctor’s farewell episode.
