Jessica Chastain says she’s waiting on the script for a sequel to 2014’s crime drama feature “A Most Violent Year”.
J.C Chandor directs the acclaimed film which takes place in 1981 New York as a fuel supplier (Oscar Isaac) tries to adhere to his own moral compass amid the violence, corruption, and decay that threaten his family and his business.
The film scored great acclaim for its performances from Isaac and Chastain, who later re-teamed in the HBO miniseries “Scenes From a Marriage”. As a result, there’s been chatter about a potential ‘Violent Year’ sequel but no real weight to the talk.
Speaking with EW recently, she gave an update on how the project is going and says she’s keenly awaiting the script:
“Here’s the reality, and we’ll see if this ever happens, because this is a script I’m waiting to get written. Waiting on. It’s a story about capitalism using this family, [it’s] the American story. J.C. has a really good… when I first met with him, he pitched me this whole idea, and I think it’s amazing, so I’m waiting. I’m just waiting to get a script.
[I want to know] what happens to Anna Morales 10 years later. You know she’s ruling the roost. You know she grew up in a not great situation, she’s got the gun in her purse, she’s ready, she shoots the deer, like, no problem. She’s ready to be let out of her cage.”
A24 grossed $12 million off the film from a $20 million budget and was sadly considered a bomb, despite many award nominations and a few wins.
