“Jennifer’s Body 2” Is Being Written

20th Century Studios

A sequel to 2009 horror feature “Jennifer’s Body” is in the works with original director Karyn Kusama and writer Diablo Cody returning.

Talking with Deadline, Kusama confirmed that Cody is currently working on the script for the follow-up:

“I know she’s working on it right now, and I’m very excited to hear what comes of it. I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”

A sequel has been hinted at as a possibility for years with Kusama enthusiastic over the idea, but the sequel was never confirmed to be in development or greenlit by 20th Century Studios.

Though a box-office flop, the original has had a second life on home video where it has become a minor cult classic.

Amanda Seyfried starred in the film as Needy, whose best friend Jennifer (Megan Fox) is sacrificed by the lead singer (Adam Brody) of a band touring through town – she ends up turning into a flesh-eating predator who preys on unsuspecting boys to survive.

If she helms, it would mark Kusama’s first film since the Nicole Kidman-led “Destroyer”. In recent years Kusama has been occupied with her work on Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” which will end with its fourth season.
