Storyboard artist turned animation director Jay Oliva (“Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox,” “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns”) has been set to direct the 3D animated feature “The White Tower” set within the world of “The Wheel Of Time”.
Inspired by Robert Jordan’s iconic fantasy novel series, the film will be a standalone original story set within the universe of the books. It will unfold in a time before the main series of events, which are being adapted in Amazon Prime Video’s “The Wheel of Time” live-action series.
The White Tower itself, seen regularly in the Amazon series, is used by the mysterious Aes Sedai sisterhood as a capital, residence, school, and fortress.
iwot Productions and Squeeze Studios (“The Amazing Maurice”) are teaming up to produce the work dubbed an action adventure about a young girl with a special gift whose life is forever changed when evil visits her mountain village.
Finding herself alone in a dangerous world, she must go to The White Tower to learn how to use her magical powers in order to save her family and friends. Rebellious and distrusting, she learns that friendship can be as powerful a weapon against evil as any form of magic.
The long-gestating project will be based on an original screenplay from “Thor” writer Zack Stentz and is eyeing an early 2024 production start. Stentz, Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon are producing.
