Marc Gilpin, who played the youngest son of Roy Scheider’s Police Chief Martin Brody in “Jaws 2,” has died. He was 56.

Gilpin died in Dallas on Saturday after a long battle with glioblastoma (brain tumour). “Frasier” actress Peri Gilpin, his older sister, announced the news.

As a kid, Gilpin beat out hundreds of other boys to get hired as Sean Brody in 1978’s sequel to Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster.

Hardly the film classic of the original, the sequel nonetheless has its fans and is by far the most well-regarded of the three sequels to the original. Jeannot Szwarc, who also directed the Christopher Reeve-led “Somewhere in Time” and the Helen Slater-led “Supergirl” film, helmed the movie.

He also appeared in the films “She’s Out of Control,” “The Legend of the Long Ranger” and “Earthbound,” had a key role in the ABC telemovie “Surviving,” and guest-stared on shows like “Fantasy Island,” “China Beach,” “CHiPs” and “Flying High”.

Gilpin got out of acting and became a self-taught software engineer. In recent years he lost two sisters, April and Patti. He’s survived by his sister Peri, wife Kaki, and two teenage sons.
