Jamie Foxx Still Keen For New “Spawn”

After years and years of teases by creator Todd McFarlane with no real fruit, faint light may be on the horizon for a new live-action “Spawn” film.

The project’s development has gained and then lost momentum for various reasons. However back in May, producer Jason Blum said “there has been an enormous amount of activity on Spawn” and the film was in “very active development”.

Jamie Foxx’s name has been attached to the film since 2018, and in an interview this week with Yahoo whilst out promoting Netflix’s “Project Power,” Foxx says the success of “Black Panther” indicated it’s the right time to get this project moving:

“I surprised Todd McFarlane. I said, ‘Bro, I know that one day you will do this movie, and I hope you will keep me in mind.’ What Black Panther did was let us know that it’s so necessary, and it’s the time. And Spawn is just an interesting character in itself. The heads that are being put together to bring you something special – look out.”

In the comics, Spawn is a human-turned-Hellspawn who possesses superhuman strength and speed, and near immortality. This would mark the third major screen adaptation of the character following 1997’s not well-regarded live-action film from New Line, and 1999’s acclaimed Emmy-winning HBO adult animated series. McFarlane has also hinted at a new animated work based on the property being in the works.
