In the wake of the critically acclaimed first season a year ago, The BBC is moving forward with a six-part second season of the Jamie Dornan-led darkly comedic thriller series “The Tourist”. Filming begins in April.

The first season saw the “Fifty Shade of Grey” and “The Fall” star play a Northern Irish man run off the road in the Australian outback. He wakes up with amnesia in a local hospital and must use what few clues he has to discover his identity before his past catches up with him.

In the new run, Dornan reprises his role of Elliot alongside Danielle Macdonald’s Helen as they travel to Ireland together and try to help Elliot rediscover his roots.

The pair soon find themselves dragged into the dangerous whirlwind of his past life and whilst Elliot fights with his own demons, Helen is left to pick up the pieces of a larger mystery – forcing them both to confront foes, old and new.

Made in association with Stan and ZDF, the new run sees creators Jack and Harry Williams returning to write the next season alongside Dornan says: “I’m incredibly excited to continue the story with The Tourist. Harry and Jack Williams are brilliant writers and I can’t wait for audiences to see how well Ireland and its characters are utilised to keep them guessing as the tale progresses.”

The first season launched with 12 million viewers and was the most watched program on BBC iPlayer that month. Sales for the first series also spanned five continents and scored very good reviews.
