James Wan Directs “Gangster, Cop, Devil” Remake

Warner Bros. Pictures

“The Conjuring” and “Aquaman” filmmaker James Wan has been set to direct and produce an English-language reimagining of 2019 Korean feature “The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil” for Paramount Pictures.

“Train to Busan” and “The Roundup” star Ma Dong-seok (aka Don Lee), who starred in the original film, is attached to return for this new take and will produce.

The original followed a police officer (Kim Mu-yeol) and a crime boss (Lee) who reluctantly team up to track down a serial killer (Kim Sung-kyu). With each having their own motives to capture the killer, double-crosses and cat-and-mouse games ensue.

Shay Hatten (“John Wick,” “Rebel Moon”) is writing the screenplay based on a draft from Brian Helgeland (“L.A. Confidential”) who will executive produce.

Wan and Michael Clear will produce via Wan’s Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner. Other producers include Sylvester Stallone, D. Matt Geller, Chris Lee, and Jang Won-seok.

The project is expected to mark Wan’s first directorial feature since 2023’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”.
