James Gunn On Lack Of Nova In “Guardians”

Marvel

Ever since James Gunn’s first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film was announced, there’s been calls from Marvel fans for the screen debut of the superhero Nova.

To this day, the character has still yet to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the reason for this is fairly simple according to Gunn himself.

Speaking during a recent appearance on the Phase Zero podcast to promote “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special,” Gunn explains that while Nova is an iconic hero – he’s simply too big of a character to include in someone else’s film.

This was especially true of “Guardians of the Galaxy” where Gunn said he deliberately didn’t want to have too many humans in the film:

“He’s just too big of a character, and he seemed too… I didn’t want to… From the beginning, when I came on board Guardians, I didn’t want to have two human beings. I wanted to have one human being so that he could be surrounded in this world of aliens, and then we realized little by little that all of these characters are the only of their kind; they’re the only human being to them, you know?”

Marvel Studios has previously announced that a project named after the character is currently in development, so he is expected to show up sometime in the near future.
