Filmmaker James Cameron is a busy man these days – finishing up “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” gearing up some work on “Avatar 4,” and getting his WWII drama “Ghosts of Hiroshima” going.
He’s also currently developing a mysterious project set within the “Terminator” universe, the man himself revealing for the first time in August last year. However, it appears he has hit writer’s block in regards to the story.
Speaking with CNN recently, Cameron says the modern day with its dangers of both artificial intelligence and potential war/nuclear threats along with huge political changes nearly daily, makes coming up with entertaining ideas that will stick a very tall order.
It seems the line between modern reality and science fiction feels blurrier than ever:
“I’m at a point right now where I have a hard time writing science fiction. I’m tasked with writing a new ‘Terminator’ story. I’ve been unable to get started on that very far because I don’t know what to say that won’t be overtaken by real events. We are living in a science fiction age right now.”
It’s not clear what this new “Terminator” will be and how it will link to the overall franchise. Cameron famously directed the first two films but since then has mostly been hands-off until 2019’s “Terminator: Dark Fate” where he did return as a producer.
The franchise most recent effort was last year’s well-received “Terminator Zero” anime.
