Jake Gyllenhaal is reportedly in negotiations to star in the Apple TV+ limited series “Presumed Innocent” based on the famed 1987 novel by Scott Turow.
The story begins with a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when one of its own – fervent prosecutor Rozat ‘Rusty’ Sabich (Gyllenhaal) – is suspected of the rape and murder of his close colleague Carolyn Polhemus.
The tale explores obsession, sex, politics and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.
The property was previously adapted into the 1990 film of the same name starring Harrison Ford, Brian Dennehy, Raul Julia, Bonnie Bedelia, Paul Winfield, Jeffrey Wright and Greta Scacchi.
The new version hails from executive producers Gyllenhaal, David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams, Matthew Tinker, Rachel Rusch Rich, Sharr White, and Dustin Thomason.
Kelley is adapting and will serve as showrunner on the series being produced by Warner Bros. Television.
