In the wake of the universal acclaim for 2018’s WW1 documentary feature “They Will Not Grow Old,” filmmaker Peter Jackson turned his sights towards a feature documentary about iconic British band The Beatles.

Now those plans have changed with Walt Disney Studios, Apple Corps Ltd., and WingNut Films Productions Ltd. announcing that the planned Jackson-directed feature “The Beatles: Get Back” is instead becoming a six-hour series for the Disney+ service.

Disney says due to the wealth of tremendous footage Peter Jackson has reviewed, restored and edited, “The Beatles: Get Back” will be presented as three separate episodes with each running approximately two hours in length.

In addition, the plan is to release the series over the Thanksgiving weekend on a daily basis with the episodes dropping daily from November 25th-27th.

Jackson also says don’t expect something that treats things with kit gloves: “it’s not nostalgia – it’s raw, honest, and human. Over six hours, you’ll get to know The Beatles with an intimacy that you never thought possible.”

More details about the plans for the project are up at Vanity Fair.
