Jackson Responds To Tarantino Marvel Comments

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino kicked off a social media storm earlier this month when he made gave a long quote to the 2 Bears 1 Cave podcast that essentially boiled down to him saying Marvel actors are not movie stars.

In Tarantino’s view, it’s the MCU character that is the star and gets people into the theater, not the actors playing them. Today, Tarantino’s long-time onscreen collaborator Samuel L. Jackson has challenged that claim during an interview on “The View”.

Jackson, of course, has had a long and varied career, along with being a big part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in his role as Nick Fury. His character appeared all the way back in 2008’s “Iron Man,” and has shown no signs of slowing down, with Jackson reprising the role in the upcoming “Secret Invasion” series.

The hosts on “The View” asked him about Tarantino’s comments, to which he replied (via EW):

“It takes an actor to be those particular characters, and the sign of movie stardom has always been, what, asses in seats? What are we talking about? That’s not a big controversy for me to know that, apparently, these actors are movie stars. Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther. You can’t refute that, and he’s a movie star.”

Jackson has long championed his role, saying back in June he’d rather be Nick Fury or Mace Windu, enjoying the films he does as opposed to chasing potential Oscar glory.
