Following much debate, “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling has set out to clarify statements she made about the trans community on Saturday on Twitter.
Those earlier comments drew rebuke from not just many online and organisations like GLAAD, but also the two leading male stars of the film adaptations of her work – Daniel Radcliffe and Eddie Redmayne.
Rowling has now penned a 3,600 word essay on her website this morning as a response to the discourse going on, in the process revealing that she is a survivor of sexual assault and also of domestic abuse.
She also revealed she was triggered to tweet her thoughts on Saturday after reading about the Scottish government proceeding with gender recognition plans which she says “will in effect mean that all a man needs to ‘become a woman’ is to say he’s one.”
The full comments can be read at JKRowling.com, the comments effectively doubling down on her previous remarks.
The whole controversy has led to obvious questions over the fate of the “Fantastic Beasts” film franchise and what Warners intends to do.
