Paul Greengrass’ BAFTA-winning 1999 telemovie “The Murder of Stephen Lawrence” will get a three-part sequel series on ITV titled “Stephen”. Hat Trick Mercurio Television will produce while Greengrass and Mark Redhead will serve as executive producers.
Frank Cottrell Boyce (“Hilary And Jackie”) and Joe Cottrell Boyce (“Treasure”) are writing while Alrick Riley (“The Cops”) directs the project following the pursuit of justice for a murdered teenager.
The story will portray events from 2006, 13 years after Stephen’s death in a racially motivated attack while he was waiting for a bus in south London. It will chart Doreen and Neville Lawrence’s struggle to achieve justice for their son and how their efforts, working with DCI Clive Driscoll, eventually secured convictions of two of the gang members who murdered Stephen.
