Warner Bros. Pictures has won a multi-studio bidding war for “Maude v Maude,” a new action thriller that has Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry both attached to star in.
Story details are under wraps, but the project is described as a “Bond vs. Bourne” style action thriller – likely see two spies with different styles, backgrounds and methods who end up taking each other on.
Berry and Jolie have both been around and well-known names in movies since the 1990s but have never worked together prior to this.
Both are also veterans of the acting genre and the spy thriller – Jolie leading “Salt” and Berry starring in Bond film “Die Another Day”.
Both have plenty of action bonafides as well, ranging from “John Wick” and “X-Men” to “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”
Roseanne Liang is on board to direct from a script by Scott Mosier. Berry and Jolie will produce along with Holly Jeter, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth.
Warner Bros. Pictures reportedly was “aggressive” in its pursuit of the project, leading to a winning bid you don’t see much from studios these days.
Berry is filming Alex Aja’s “Never Let Go” at Lionsgate, while Jolie recently directed “Without Blood” starring Demian Bichir and Salma Hayek.
