“IT” Prequel Series “Derry” Sets Its Cast

FOX

HBO Max’s prequel series to its two-part adaptation of Stephen King’s “IT” novel has added four to its cast.

Taylour Paige (“Zola”), Jovan Adepo (“Babylon”), Chris Chalk (“Gotham”), and James Remar (“Oppenheimer”) will all star in the series that is currently going by the title “Welcome to Derry”.

The series will reportedly unfold in Derry in the early 1960s and will also reportedly go more into the origins of Pennywise the Clown, which was somewhat explored in “IT: Chapter Two”.

The first of the “IT” films takes place around late 1988/1989. Thus with Pennywise on a twenty-seven-year cycle between reappearances (with the occasional attack of anyone wandering into its domain in between), this is likely set during the cycle before the young characters of “IT: Part One” encountered him.

Andy Muschietti, who directed both films, will serve as executive producer for the series alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. All three developed the story for the show, with Fuchs writing the script and Andy Muschietti will direct multiple episodes of the series, including the first episode.

Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane will serve as co-showrunners on the project being produced for HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television. The project was ordered to series in February.

The two films collectively grossed over $1.1 billion at the global box office upon their release.
