Isabel Merced Joins Alvarez’s “Alien” Film

20th Century Studios

Isabela Merced (“Rosaline,” “Father of the Bride”) has joined the cast of “Don’t Breathe” and “Evil Dead” director Fede Alvarez’s new standalone “Alien” film at 20th Century Studios.

Ridley Scott will produce the title which is unconnected to the previous films and is being made with the intention to premiere on Hulu – following a similar path Dan Trachtenberg’s “Prey” took last year with the “Predator” franchise.

Alvarez pitched his take to Scott years ago and then late 2021 Scott asked if he was still up for it with Alvarez jumping onboard. Merced will co-star with Cailee Spaeny in the film with the Xenomorphs back and crossing paths with humanity yet again.

Merced first broke through as the lead in the series “100 Things to Do Before High School” before jumping to roles in major films including “Transformers: The Last Knight,” “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” and played the live-action Dora the Explorer in “Dora and the Lost City of Gold”.

She lent her voice to “Spirit Untamed” and most recently starred in the “Father of the Bride” remake and the “Romeo and Juliet” spin “Rosaline” for 20th and Hulu. She’ll soon be seen in Sony’s Marvel Universe of characters with “Madame Web”, and was most recently filming “Turtles All the Way Down”.

The “Alien” film is separate to FX’s planned TV series based on the franchise which Noah Hawley is developing and is expected to go into production this year.
