Isaac, Momoa, Butler Team For “Dante”

Universal Pictures, Netflix, Lionsgate

Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa and Gerard Butler are all set to star in Julian Schnabel’s next feature, the crime thriller “In the Hand of Dante”.

The project, which Martin Scorsese is executive producing, recently landed an Interim Agreement from SAG-AFTRA allowing it to film during the actor’s strike with production already underway in Italy.

The film is an adaptation of Nick Tosches’ historical novel which follows two separate stories, one set in the 14th century in Sicily and featuring Dante Alighieri, the other set in Fall 2001 with a fictionalized version of the author as a weary New York scholar.

As Dante tries to finish writing his magnum opus and deals with being trapped in a loveless marriage, he goes on a journey for mystical knowledge in Sicily.

Meanwhile Nick, a Dante expert, is called in by black market traders to attest to the authenticity of a manuscript of Dante’s The Divine Comedy. Overwhelmed by temptation, Nick steals the manuscript and soon finds himself on dark and violent path from a metaphorical Hell into Paradise.

Jon Kilik, Francesco Melzi d’eril and Olmo Schnabel produce. The film would mark Schnabel’s first feature since 2018’s acclaimed feature “At Eternity’s Gate”. Filming will take place at locations in Venice, Tarquinia, Padua, Verona, Palermo and Bracciano.
