Epic Games is reportedly considering the launch of its own entertainment division.
A new article at The Information (via Eurogamer) indicates the company is allegedly turning some focus towards scripted video programming with a potential movie based on the hit video game “Fortnite” in development.
The report indicates plans for its entertainment division began early in 2021 with the hiring of several executives from Lucasfilm including Jason McGatlin, Lynn Bartsch and Chris Furia at the start of the year.
Though plans are apparently not yet formalised, PC Gamer indicates Epic’s restrictions on pushing further into the mobile space (following the high-profile court case with Apple) means they are now considering an entertainment division as an attempt to diversify.
Epic has not commented on any of this, and even the report’s sources suggest that only internal discussions had occurred so the whole report remains a speculative rumor for now.
The report comes as “The Walking Dead” character of Rick Grimes has joined the game as part of this year’s Fortnitemares event with various iconic horror characters introduced.
