Delainey Hayles (“Holby City,” “Too Close”) will replace actress Bailey Bass in the role of young vampire Claudia for the second season of AMC’s acclaimed take on “Interview With a Vampire”.
Hayles will join series regulars Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac. Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt, Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy, Assad Zaman as Armand and Ben Daniels as Santiago in the second season which begins production next week in Prague.
Filming will then move to Paris and New Orleans. The eight-episode second season will adapt the back half of Anne Rice’s iconic 1976 novel, albeit changing up the time period as Louis and Claudia arrive in Eastern Europe in the grip of World War II.
The new season boasts changes to the story more in line with the latter books in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series. In an announcement late Friday, the network says:
“Bailey Bass is a talented actor who did a remarkable job bringing the character of Claudia to life in Anne Rice’s ‘Interview with the Vampire’. For a variety of reasons, Delainey Hayles will appear as Claudia in season two. We are grateful for Bailey’s unforgettable performance in season one and wish her nothing but the best.”
Bass issued her own statement saying:
“Playing Claudia has been a dream role and an incredible ride. I wish Delainey the best of luck in taking over. I cannot wait to watch. I’m extremely appreciative of AMC, the producers, Jacob, Sam, the crew and, of course, the wonderful fans.”
Bass also stars as Tsireya in James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” and will reprise her role in future installments of the franchise.
