As part of its first appearance at the TV upfronts today, Lucasfilm showed off three episodic series and announced that the “Indiana Jones” catalogue is coming to the Disney+ service.
The four existing films have previously been available on Paramount+ and Prime Video and will now all hit Disney+ on May 31st – just over four weeks ahead of the theatrical release of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” on June 30th.
In addition, “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones” TV series will also arrive on the service on the same day. The series was initially released as “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles” with 28 episodes running from 1992-1993 followed by four telemovies from 1994-1996.
Then in 1996, George Lucas hired T.M. Christopher to re-edit the series into twenty-two feature-length episodes rebranded as “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones”. Scenes were added back in and other minor changes were made to put it into chronological order. That appears to be the version coming to the Disney+ service.
Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. will also receive special access to merchandise on shopDisney during the first week of June.
Lucasfilm President Kathy Kennedy was on hand at the presentation to say: “We couldn’t be happier with the opportunities the medium [of streaming] and this platform have afforded us.”
She confirmed that streaming of “Star Wars” content on this year’s May 4th ‘Star Wars Day’ increased 200% year-on-year. Also shown off were trailers and featurettes for “Skeleton Crew,” “The Acolyte” and “Ahsoka”.
