Iger Teases More Straight To Disney+ Titles

Walt Disney Studios chief Bob Iger has teased that more Disney theatrical releases could end up making the jump to the company’s new streaming service Disney+ following the quick rush of “Onward” to the platform, and the ditching of a theatrical release altogether for “Artemis Fowl”.

Speaking with Barron’s today, Iger says: “In terms of movies going ahead after ‘Artemis,’ there may be a few more that we end up putting directly onto Disney+, but for the most part a lot of the big tentpole Disney films, we’ll simply wait for slots. In some cases we’ve announced new ones already, but later on in the calendar.”

That certainly leaves open the possibility that more changes are on the way. While a bunch of Disney and 20th Century Studios are still locked in for releases, others like “The Woman in the Window,” “Antlers,” “The Personal History of David Copperfield” and “The New Mutants” aren’t yet set.

Disney also still has Pixar’s “Soul” slated for a June 19th premiere, one that it’s unlikely to make, but that’s a big enough title it will likely be moved. Iger also suggests Disney might consider taking guests’ temperatures when they arrive at Disneyland and Disney World theme parks, both of which are closed indefinitely.
