British actor Idris Elba has teased the possibility of a feature film version of his famed BBC TV crime drama series “Luther”.
Neil Cross created the drama in 2010 which follows Elba as the titular detective investigating usually one or two cases over a handful of episodes each season, while Ruth Wilson occasionally pops up as his psychopathic prodigy and twisted love interest Alice.
Speaking at a virtual event to promote the third season of his semi-autobiographical show “In The Long Run,” Elba says of the show’s current status:
“There isn’t a real formal plan for ‘Luther’ at the moment. I’ve made it very clear that I’d like to see ‘Luther’ come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of ‘Luther.'”
The series has won the actor two Golden Globes, scored great reviews and remains a consistent ratings performer even with gaps of up to four years between seasons. To date twenty episodes across five seasons have been produced with the most recent season airing January 2019.
