“Luther” and “Thor” actor Idris Elba is reportedly in talks with marketing network Miroma in regards to their $1.2 billion bid for British broadcaster Channel 4 according to newspaper The Sunday Times (via Deadline).

The paper claims Elba is discussing a joint bid alongside Miroma founder and media entrepreneur Marc Boyan. While Elba runs his own production company with Green Door Pictures, he has never owned a media business the size of Channel 4 before.

The British government reportedly remains intent on selling the state-owned Channel 4 to allow it to better compete in the digital era, even as the move has been largely opposed by the industry. Likely bidders for the channel include ITV, Comcast, Paramount, Discovery and Vivendi.
