STXfilms and Lionsgate have reached a new distribution agreement that will see the development of scripted TV series based on some of STX’s library of 75 feature titles.
Specifically, two series based on the Jennifer Lopez-led 2019 film “Hustlers” and the Mila Kunis 2016 comedy “Bad Moms” will shortly be put into development.
Nothing is in the works just yet on either, so it’s not clear if any of the original cast or crew from either film will be involved in the shows at this point. Both films were success stories for the distributor, earning over $155 million and $180 million respectively.
Lionsgate will also now handle marketing and distribution for the existing films of the library along with domestically distributing new STXfilms releases theatrically.
The first film to fall under that deal is the Daisy Ridley-led “The Marsh King’s Daughter” which released its trailer yesterday. Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions will jointly release the film in cinemas on October 6th.
Some of STX’s other library titles include “The Gentlemen,” “Greenland,” and “Molly’s Game” with “The Gentlemen” already getting a Netflix TV series starring Theo James.
