Hulu Sets “Helstrom,” Upgrades “Y” & More

Hulu has announced that several of its scripted series have pushed back launches to 2021. Those series include the new season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Amy Schumer’s “Love, Beth,” and Kate McKinnon’s Elizabeth Holmes-themed limited series”The Dropout”.

All three of those shows were originally targeting 2020 premieres. Two new shows that will stay in 2020 are Marvel’s “Helstrom” which hits in October, and the anthology “Monsterland”.

The Steve Martin and Martin Short half-hour comedy from “This Is Us” creator Dan Fogelman has scored a straight-to-series order and will go by the title “Only Murders In The Building”. The series follows three New Yorkers who find they have a mutual interest in solving true crime – but limit their amateur sleuthing to only murders in their building.

Hulu also announced today that both the spin-off “American Horror Stories” and the long-gestating acclaimed comic adaptation “Y: The Last Man” will both debut on FX on Hulu rather than just FX.

This follows in the path of several FX series of late who’ve done the same including “Devs” and “Mrs. America” along with the upcoming “A Teacher” with Nick Robinson and Kate Mara along with the Jeff Bridges-led “The Old Man”. It’s expected within the next two years, FX will supply Hulu with around one-third of its scripted original fare.

Finally, the service’s ‘Huluween’ celebrations this year will include two features – Justin Simien’s comedy “Bad Hair” and a new adaptation of Clive Barker’s “Books of Blood”.
