Hulu has had a busy day today.
First up, the Steven Spielberg-produced reboot of the classic 1990s cartoon “Animaniacs” has set a November 20th premiere date on the service. The series returns a full 22 years after its final episode aired in November 1998.
This new version of the family friendly cartoon will see Warner siblings, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner sister Dot, have a great time wreaking havoc and mayhem in the lives of everyone they meet. Fan favorites Pinky and the Brain also return.
The series already has a second season order with both the first and second seasons consisting of thirteen episodes each. The second will air sometime in 2021.
Next up, Hulu’s “Love, Simon” spin-off “Love, Victor” will return for a second season.
The half-hour series, led by Michael Cimino in the title role of a Creekwood High student coming to terms with his sexuality, was originally developed for Disney+ before moving to the more adult-oriented streamer out of concerns about themes including drinking and adultery.
Writing on the new season has reportedly been ongoing for months and will be a bit edgier with its humor now that they’re going in knowing ahead of time that the series will live on Hulu.
“Love, Victor” was its most-watched drama during its premiere week this past June and has received excellent scores from both critics and audiences on review aggregation sites.
Next, the streamer has also picked up the drama “The Girl From Plainville” straight-to-series. Elle Fanning will star in the series which deals with the Michelle Carter texting-suicide case and hails from “The Post” writer Liz Hannah. No date has been set as yet.
The food-themed series “Taste the Nation” has also been renewed, the eight-episode anthology series “Monsterland” has set an October 2nd premiere date, the eight episode Syrian civil war drama “No Man’s Land” has set a November 18th premiere date, and the Greta Thunberg documentary “I Am Greta” arrives November 13th.
All join returning shows on the series including “Ramy,” “Solar Opposites,” “The Great,” “Dollface,” and “Shril” among others.
Selena Gomez has scored the co-lead role opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short in Hulu’s comedy series “Only Murders in the Building”. The trio play three strangers who share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one.
Bobby Cannavale has become the last series regular to join Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy and Luke Evans in Hulu’s tentpole limited series “Nine Perfect Strangers”.
Finally, Hulu has released the official trailers for the second season of coming-of age comedy series “PEN15” and the series debut of Lamorne Morris’ “Woke” which debut September 18th and September 9th respectively.
