Hulu Renews Animated “Solar,” “Swords”

Hulu has handed out quick renewal orders to two recent adult-focused animated comedies – “Solar Opposites” and “Crossing Swords”.

The alien comedy “Solar Opposites” hails from Rick and Morty duo Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan and was originally ordered straight to series with a two-season, sixteen-episode order. The renewal grants them a third season consisting of twelve episodes.

‘Solar’ launched on May 8th and has been Hulu’s most-watched original comedy premiere to date. Roiland, Thomas Middleditch, Sean Giambrone and Mary Mack lend their voices to the series which has also scored very positive reviews.

The sex-crazed medieval royal comedy “Crossing Swords” is scoring a second season of ten episodes. Nicholas Hoult, Luke Evans, Seth Green, Tara Strong, Tony Hale lend their voices to the show which has snagged terrible critical reviews but been a hit with audiences.

Animated series have largely been able to continue production amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the early pickups allows both shows to keep production running.
