Hulu Pulling Several One-And-Done Series

Hulu is bracing for another round of programming purges in an effort to cut costs.

Disney revealed last month in an SEC filing that it would take $1.5-1.8 billion in write-downs associated with removing streaming programming from its platforms.

That led to the removal of shows like “Y: The Last Man,” “The Hot Zone,” “Pistol” and “Little Demon” from Hulu, along with “Willow” and “The Mighty Ducks” among others from the Disney+ service.

At the time, it was indicated they expect to remove more from their direct-to-consumer platforms in the third quarter with another $400 million in ‘content impairment’ charges.

Deadline has now revealed some of those titles set to be pulled in the third quarter. In fact, the removals are expected as early as this coming weekend.

The list includes drama series “Alaska Daily” and “The Company You Keep,” both of which were cancelled at ABC after one season. Episodes will still be available to buy via iTunes and Amazon.

The trade understands that going forward, ABC series that were cancelled after one season, along with one-off specials, will all likely fall under a similar strategy.

Also being removed from this weekend is a bunch of licensed content on Hulu, including Rashida Jones comedy “Angie Tribeca,” NBC crime drama “Blindspot,” road trip comedy “The Detour” and TNT drama “The Last Ship”. Many of those shows were originally not set to expire until between 2024 and 2026.
