The Mediapro Studio and Hulu Japan are teaming for the second season of the psychological mystery thriller series “The Head” following the 2020 debut season becoming Mediapro’s biggest global hit – streaming on HBO Max in the United States, Canal Plus in parts of Europe, SBS in Australia and more.

The first season of the Spanish-made, English-language series unfolded at a remote polar research station in Antarctica doing climate research. Having been out of contact for six months during the endless dark of the South Pole ‘winter’, the relief crew arrives to find the entire skeleton crew who manned the station over the winter are either dead or missing and a killer has been on the loose.

The six-episode series plays with perspective and structure as it shows what happened over that six months and how it ties into what the newly arrived crew uncovers. Various international stars from Money Heist’s The Professor himself Alvaro Morte to British acting veteran John Lynch starred.

Lynch and Katharine O’Donnelly will return for the second season which will relocate the action to an ocean freighter on a scientific mission, this time the isolation is driven by being trapped on a ship in the middle of the ocean with nowhere to go.

Enrique Arce, Nora Ríos, Tania Watson, Thierry Godard, Sota Fukushi, Hovik Keuchkerian, Moe Dunford. Josefin Nelden and Olivia Morris also star in the new run. Filmmaker Jorge Dorado is currently directing the project which is in the midst of shooting in Tenerife on the Canary Islands before heading to Madrid and locations in both Ireland and Spain.

No airdate has yet been set though a 2023 debut seems likely.
