Hulu has cancelled its scripted anthology series “Castle Rock,” based on the works of horror master Stephen King, after two seasons.
The high profile psychological-horror drama series launched in 2018 to much discussion with J.J. Abrams executive producing and acclaimed actor Andre Holland starring in that first season which hailed from Warner Bros. TV.
However reviews were soft for both seasons and though it launched to strong numbers, the second season led by Lizzy Caplan came and went a year ago without much fanfare. It’s the latest victim of a number of cancellations at Hulu this year along with the likes of “Runaways,” “High Fidelity,” “Harlots” and “Future Man”.
The axing comes as Warner Bros. TV, Abrams and King are re-teaming for “The Shining” spin-off series “Overlook Hotel” which is currently in the works at HBO Max. Abrams also produced the well received King mini-series adaptation “11.22.63” for Hulu.
