Hugh Grant has begun talks to star in the A24 horror feature “Heretic”, which hails from “A Quiet Place” and “The Boogeyman” scribes Scott Beck and Bryan Woods.
Story details are officially under wraps, but the film is rumored to center on two young women of faith who are lured into a cat-and-mouse game in the home of an eccentric man (presumably Grant).
The project marks a rare foray into horror for Grant, but not his first time as he appeared in several early in his career, including Ken Russell’s “The Lair of the White Worm,” Michael Apted’s “Extreme Measures,” and Carlo Quinterio’s “Night Train to Venice” – the latter a barely seen German film Grant once dubbed the worst of his career.
Beck and Woods will pen and direct the film, whilst no producers are yet attached. Beck and Woods are coming off the Adam Driver-led sci-fi thriller “65,” which they both penned and directed. That film flopped both with critics and at the box-office.
Hugh Grant is coming off a well-regarded supporting turn in the fantasy comedy “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” which scored critical acclaim and over $200 million at the global box office.
Grant will next be seen guest starring opposite Kate Winslet in Max’s limited series “The Regime,” appearing in Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story,” and playing an Oompa Loompa in the Timothee Chalamet-led “Wonka” movie.
