“Solo” will remain solo as filmmaker Ron Howard has shot down recent rumors suggesting a sequel film or series to his 2018 feature is in the works.
Speaking with SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, Howard confirmed: “Well, there’s no sequel planned now. It’s amazing to be a part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit, which is not what you’d expect, but that’s been an odd, strange journey for that movie.”
The quote follows a week stacked with rumors throwing around ranging from a Lando-led Disney+ spin-off series, a sequel film and beyond.
Though the fan support is strong, the film remains a box-office dud and softly reviewed film and so a sequel seems unlikely, especially as Disney has shown it doesn’t often make sequels to films that underperform (ie. “Tron Legacy”).
