“House of the Dragon” Scores S2 Renewal

House Of The Dragon Scores S2 Renewal
HBO

Less than a week after its series premiere, HBO has officially renewed its “Game of Thrones” prequel spin-off “House of the Dragon” for a second season.

The order comes mere says after the show delivered 10 million viewers overnight, an HBO record for a series opener and roughly on par with the sixth season premiere of ‘Thrones’.

The premium cabler is now reporting that in the days since, the first episode’s viewership has climbed to 20 million viewers in the U.S. across linear, on demand and HBO Max platforms.

HBO did not say how many episodes will be in the second season, though a repeat of the ten-episode order of the first is likely.

The first season involved nearly a year of filming and a lot of still ongoing post-production work. Thus it’s likely a second season wouldn’t hit until 2024.
