“House of the Dragon” Season 3 Filming Set?

HBO

Word has finally come through on the status of “House of the Dragon” Season 3, the continuation of HBO’s epic fantasy series spin-off of “Game of Thrones”.

HBO renewed the show for a third season in June 2024, just days before the second season premiered on the cabler. In August, showrunner Ryan Condal indicated scripts were in development, with plans for an early 2025 shoot.

Things got confusing in October at New York Comic Con when series stars Matt Smith, Fabian Frankel, and Tom Glynn-Carney revealed they knew essentially nothing about the next season.

Now, Redanian Intelligence is reporting that the third season shoot of “House of the Dragon” will run from March-October this year. Going by past seasons, airing tends to take place nearly a full year after filming wraps.

That would suggest we won’t see the new run until late Summer or early Fall 2026 – a full two years after the second season went to air. HBO has not officially announced any production or release plans for “House of the Dragon” Season 3, only confirming previously that it is coming and the show will end with its fourth outing.

The second season finale resulted in a wave of complaints about how the episode was more a trailer for next season than a proper finale because it built up to a battle that ultimately wasn’t shown. The show must also deal with Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) who received a vision while in Harrenhal and placing his hand on a weirwood tree.

HBO’s other “Game of Thrones” spinoff, the six-episode “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” will debut this year.
