Sony has confirmed that its live-action film adaptation of the “Horizon Zero Dawn” games has a finished script and plans to start shooting next year for a 2027 release.
The news came via The Gamer Post who obtained it through court filings over Sony’s ongoing lawsuit against Tencent over Light of Motiram, which the company describes as a ‘slavish clone’
of its “Horizon” franchise.
Three years ago, Sony made plans for a live-action “Horizon” TV series at Netflix with Steve Blackman (“The Umbrella Academy”) as showrunner. That collapsed when misconduct allegations surfaced against Blackman in 2024.
Then in January this year, Sony announced plans had changed to a feature film adaptation instead. Head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash, has revealed in the documents filed yesterday that the project “already has a working script, and Sony is actively looking for a director. Qizilbash says:
“We are in development for a film based on Horizon in partnership with Columbia Pictures. We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027. The live-action film follows the recent collaborations between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions on the 2022 film Uncharted and the 2023 film Gran Turismo.”
Multiple PlayStation Productions titles are planned including films based on “Ghost of Tsushima,” “Helldivers 2,” “Gravity Rush” and “Days Gone,” along with a TV series based on “God of War” and a third season of “The Last of Us”.
