Hopkins Not A Fan Of His Marvel Work

Whilst the young and buff generally lead Marvel Studios films, supporting roles often go to a wide range of character actors and veterans – including some acting legends.

One such legend is Anthony Hopkins, who stars as Thor and Loki’s grumpy father Odin in the first three “Thor” films. Hopkins’ role, a fairly decent-sized supporting part in the first one, shrank with each appearance to essentially a cameo by the time of “Thor: Ragnarok,” where he was killed off.

Speaking as part of a recent New Yorker profile about the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hopkins spoke about his time as Odin and from the sounds of it he wasn’t a fan of the job he had to do.

He says: “They put me in armor; they shoved a beard on me. Sit on the throne, shout a bit. If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, it’s pointless acting it.”

Hopkins’ issue seems to stem mostly from green screen blockbuster production and the rather limited nature of the role, as opposed to the content of the films themselves. Hopkins is hardly the first actor to complain about that.

Recently, Hopkins’ on-screen son in the films – actor Chris Hemsworth – responded to critics of the Marvel films such as Tarantino and Scorsese, telling GQ he’s disappointed that he likely won’t get the chance to work with those filmmakers.
